"The City" Chapter of the publication covers the general response of Manchester residents and artists to the vast changes taking place within the city. Due to the hastily changing landscapes and steady gentrification of the area, opinion is heavily divided, with many residents attempting to escape the discourse surrounding the city as it becomes more prevalent, and finding that increasingly difficult to do.
To represent the rapid changes in urban developments and quickly fading cultural identity of the city, I attempted to convey these notions through chaotic compositions and a widely spanning colour palette, giving a general impression of confusing disorder.
While the general style of these cut- together images remained faithful to original inspiration Anton Reva, (link in stage one) I begun introducing the blurred, phantom-esque tone of visual artist Wrapped.nil to add to the chaotic feeling of the images.
"The Country" Chapter of the publication covers how the UK politics of recent years has been felt by the city of Manchester, (Business, homelessness, COVID restrictions etc.) And in what ways the city has responded, from the bottom of the social ladder, to the top.
I wanted to convey a heavier mood in this section, harking toward the civil uncertainty and depressive period of lockdown in 2020, and how its effects are still being felt by the city as a whole. To achieve this, I used a darker colour palette, primarily using images of a dry range of colours or deeper tones, or greyscale images. Developments of cover mockups are pictured here.
"The World" Chapter of the publication covers how the vastly shifting socio-political landscape of the world has impacted the city in recent years, how developments and recessions on the political spectrum and the general confusion over global politics has afflicted Manchester, like several other cities.
We've seen the rise of radical political awereness, due to several different factors, many having global politics influence our proximity to these issues. In this chapter, I wanted to convey a more cinematic feeling, as art, in the publication, isportrayed as our most accessible escape from these factors. The composition would be slightly less chaotic than its counterpart chapters, but an underlying uncertainty would still be key.
